Poison

As a child, I feared grape flavored cough syrup.  It was, and always will be, the bane of my existence.  Every time I got strep throat I tried to hide it because I knew that my parents would force me to face my arch nemesis.  I even had nightmares about the cough syrup as a 9 year old boy.  I had many of them of course, but one dream sticks out more than the others.  In this dream, I woke up in the middle of the night to grab some Oreo cookies.  Little did I know, however, I was being watched by none other than, the grape cough syrup.  Only this time however, it grew a pair of arms and legs, and lunged after me from the kitchen cupboard.  I tried to run away, but it was no use, because out of nowhere, OxyContin and Tylenol ambushed me from the living room.  Next thing I knew, I was being tied to the living room furniture.  I looked up and saw the cough syrup looking me in the eye, and penetrating my soul with its faceless gaze.  Then, within an instant, it pulled the cap from its head and filled I with grape cough syrup.  I knew that this would be the end, and that there was no escaping my gruesome fate.  As I was about to be force fed the vile liquid, I woke up from my slumber, drenched in copious amounts of sweat.  To this day, grape cough syrup is my biggest fear.
